A Message from Fr. Truc
First Sunday of Lent Sunday February 20/21, 2010
Last Wednesday was the beginning of Lent. Most of us went to mass to receive ashes on our forehead as a testament to our commitment during the coming 40 days of prayers, fasting and almsgiving.
As one Body of Christ, the Church, we are invited to enter deeply into the Paschal mystery of Christ that is Jesus’ dying and rising to new life). St. Paul encourages his community of Corrinth: “We are ambassadors for Christ, as if God were appealing through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God” (2 Cor. 20). In which way can we “be reconciled to God?” What do we need to do to claim God to be the center of our being again? What do we need to change in our behaviors, attitude and personality?
May be the first step is to return to our roots by embracing the Gospel’s values and virtues and by renewing our Catholic Tradition through the celebration of the sacraments.
In the same verse, St. Paul recognizes the gift of leadership in the church. “We are ambassadors for Christ.” I want to use this opportunity to introduce to you the members of the Pastoral Liturgy Council with whom I consult during the last 5-6 months. This Sunday at the 10AM mass I will officially commission them at mass and introduce them to you.
During these months they have been working diligently behind the scene to help me to carry out the mission and goals of our parish. If you have any comments or suggestion concerning our parish, please call or talk to them after mass. Please keep them in your special care.
Throughout the five Sundays of Lent, I invite you to join us at 6:30 p.m. in the church, on Friday evenings, for the Stations of the Cross and celebration of the holy Eucharist.
As a reminder, if you have not had a chance to make your generous donation in support of Together in Mission, Lent is a great time for almsgiving. Please examine your family financial situation because 35 parishes & 45 schools are waiting for your help. Our goal this year is approximately $23,000.00. I thank those who already made their contribution to the Fund.
Together as a community of faith, we can journey and pray to God for the forgiveness of our sins and to experience deeply our change of heart (metanoia) toward becoming more Christ like. We consciously say the following words in our prayer. “Turn away from sin and be faithful to the Gospel.”
