Sacrament of Baptism

- The birth of a child is a major event in the life of any family. On behalf of Cathedral Chapel of St. Vibiana, Los Angeles, we extend to you and your child our warmest welcome and congratulations.
  
  Baptism is a welcoming of your child into Christ and into the Church. You are the primary teachers of your child. Your child will learn about life, love, God, and religion from you. By your example and life, your child will learn about your values and beliefs. A decision to have a child baptized is serious. This decision means that you are choosing to accept responsibility for your child’s early faith development.
  
  Baptism is a beginning of one’s life in the Family of God and is surely a most important step. To assist you and before we can begin the registration process, we have established the following requirements.

  Once your completed form is received in the parish, a staff will contact you to set up a meeting date in person to confirm baptismal date and required signatures.
Requirements
- At least one parent must be a baptized and practicing Catholic. It is recommended to register as a parishioner to have your child baptized in our parish.
  
  If you are not registered in our parish and attend another church, you must request a letter from your parish pastor granting permission for your child to be baptized at Cathedral Chapel.
  
  You must submit a copy of your child's birth certificate or hospital certificate. You can submit these certificates by scanning and email it to [email protected] or submitting in person once a meeting date has been established with a parish staff.
  
  Both the parents and godparents must attend a baptism preparation class, which is offered as an online course at the Archdiocese of Los Angeles website. You may attend classes at another Catholic parish and provide us with a certificate of completion with the name and date of baptism by mail or drop it in person.
  
  Setting Baptism Date - in order to confirm and set Baptism date, you must have turned in all of the above requirements and have paid the non-refundable fee of $100. You will not be allowed to schedule a baptism date unless the above requirements are met. Please click on the Registration Form tab above for fees.
Selecting Godparents
- Selecting Godparents is an important task for parents because they will be the secondary teachers and/or role models for your child. Godparents must be Catholics who have received the Sacraments of Baptism & Confirmation.
  
  Each Godparent is required to fill out and sign the Godparent Commitment Form. If Godparents are not from this parish, this form must be signed by the pastor of his/her parish and stamped with the parish’s seal. Submit the Godparent Commitment Forms with the Baptism registration form, along with a copy of Godparents’ Baptismal Certificates.
  
  Non-Catholics may not be godparents but may be an official witness as long as there is one Catholic godparent who fulfills the requirements outlined in the Godparent Commitment Form.

Registration Form

  Please read carefully instructions and requirements below:
  Regular baptism is held on the 3rd Sunday of the month after 1:00pm.
  If you wish to have a private baptism, please allow at least 6 weeks weeks in advanced before your desired baptism date.
  
  Setting a Private Baptism Date - in order to confirm and set a private Baptism date, you must have turned in all of the requirements and have paid the non-refundable fee of $200. You will not be allowed to schedule a baptism date unless the requirements are met.

  Parishioner: $75
  Non-Parishioner: $100

  Parishioner: $350 (You must be registered at least 6 months prior to baptism date to qualify for this rate.)
