“Marathon of Prayer”
for an end to the Covid-19 pandemic.
At Cathedral Chapel of St. Vibiana, we are responding to “to the Holy Father’s heartfelt wish, the month of May will be dedicated to a ‘marathon’ of prayer, to ask for the end of the pandemic, which has afflicted the world for more than a year now, and to ask for the resumption of social and work activities".

3. THE ANGELUS
V/. The Angel of the Lord declared unto Mary,
R/. And she conceived of the Holy Spirit.
Hail Mary, full of grace; the LORD is with thee: blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed is the Fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
V/. Behold the handmaid of the Lord,
R/. Be it done unto me according to your Word.
Hail Mary…, Holy Mary….
V/. And the Word was made flesh,
R/. And dwelt among us.
Hail Mary…, Holy Mary….
V/. Pray for us, O holy Mother of God,
R/. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.
LET US PRAY,
Pour forth, we beseech you, O Lord, your grace into our hearts: that we, to whom the Incarnation of Christ your Son was made known by the message of an Angel, may by his Passion and Cross be brought to the glory of his Resurrection.
Through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.
THE RECITATION OF THE HOLY ROSARY
4. INTRODUCTION
Dear brothers and sisters, the time of pandemic has deeply affected our lives. This trial is an opportunity to witness to our faith, to nurture hope and to make gestures of charity through corporal and spiritual works of charity.
So many are marked by grief because they have lost a loved one or have been unable to accompany them at the time of their passing and burial.
Family and social relationships have been severely tested; the economic crisis and the lack of work cause fear due to the increasingly uncertain future of one's family.
In this experience, we feel like the first Christian community, which the text of the Acts of the Apostles describes with this beautiful expression:
"Prayer by the Church was fervently being made to God" (Acts 12:5).
We, too, wish to join together in raising our prayers to God so that He may hear our petitions.
In this month of May we gather around the Holy Father, who asks the entire Church, to raise together with the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God, supplications for the end of this trial.
The candle that has just been lit will remind our community that we have been called to pray for the end of the pandemic and in particular for [insert prayer intention], at the shrine of [insert the name of the shrine] in [insert the name of the country].
Let us pray together:
We fly to thy protection, O holy Mother of God.
Despise not our petitions in our necessities, but deliver us always from all dangers,
O glorious and blessed Virgin. Amen.
HOLY ROSARY
5. APOSTLE’S CREED
I believe in God, the Father almighty, Creator of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried; he descended into hell; on the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty; from there he will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.
Our Father …
Hail Mary (3x) …
Glory Be …
HAIL MARY
Hail Mary, full of grace; the LORD is with thee: blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed is the Fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
GLORY BE
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit
as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

7. CONCLUSION OF THE HOLY ROSARY
HAIL HOLY QUEEN FOR THE PANDEMIC
We fly to your protection, O Holy Mother of God.
In the present tragic situation, when the whole world is prey to suffering and anxiety, we fly to you, Mother of God and our Mother, and seek refuge under your protection.
Virgin Mary, turn your merciful eyes towards us amid this coronavirus pandemic.
Comfort those who are distraught and mourn their loved ones who have died, and at times are buried in a way that grieves them deeply.
Be close to those who are concerned for their loved ones who are sick and who, in order to prevent the spread of the disease, cannot be close to them. Fill with hope those who are
troubled by the uncertainty of the future and the consequences for the economy and employment.
Mother of God and our Mother, pray for us to God, the Father of mercies, that this great suffering may end and that hope and peace may dawn anew.
Plead with your divine Son, as you did at Cana, so that the families of the sick and the victims be comforted, and their hearts be opened to confidence and trust.
Protect those doctors, nurses, health workers and volunteers who are on the frontline of this emergency, and are risking their lives to save others. Support their heroic effort and grant them strength, generosity, and continued health.
Mary, Consolation of the afflicted, embrace all your children in distress and pray that God will stretch out his all-powerful hand and free us from this terrible pandemic, so that life can serenely resume its normal course.
To you, who shine on our journey as a sign of salvation and hope,
do we entrust ourselves, O Clement, O Loving, O Sweet Virgin Mary. Amen.
Pray for us, O holy Mother of God, that we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ. Amen.
O God, whose only-begotten Son by His life, death and resurrection, has purchased for us the rewards of eternal life; Grant, we beseech Thee, that by meditating upon these mysteries of the Most Holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary, we may imitate what they contain and obtain what they promise, through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.
8. SAINT MICHAEL PRAYER
Saint Michael, the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray; and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly host, by the power of God cast into hell Satan and all the evil spirits who prowl throughout the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.
9. PRAYER TO ST. JOSEPH AFTER THE ROSARY
Prayer During the Year of St. Joseph
Hail, Guardian of the Redeemer, Spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary. To you God entrusted his only Son; in you Mary placed her trust; with you Christ became man. Blessed Joseph, to us too, show yourself a father and guide us in the path of life.
Obtain for us grace, mercy, and courage, and defend us from every evil. Amen.
10. FAREWELL GREETING TO MOTHER MARY
Dear Brothers and Sisters at the end of this day we entrust into the hands of the Blessed Virgin Mary the people touched by the pandemic and in particular [insert prayer intention found in the appendix], at the shrine of [insert prayer intention found in the appendix], at the shrine of [insert the name of the shrine] in [insert the name of the country] that she may entrust them to her Son: May He hear and grant our petitions.
Let us invoke her together:
Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thy intercession, was left unaided.
Inspired by this confidence I fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother. To thee do I come, before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate,
despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy hear and answer me. Amen.
11. SIGN OF THE CROSS & END.
